Test How BSA Music Improves Your Focus: MusicFocusLab.com is live
I started researching how drumming can be used therapeutically over 35 years ago and founded the REI Institute in 1994 to explore specific rhythm techniques in a clinical setting. We began this research with people on the autism and ADHD spectrums and saw significant improvements in a variety of symptoms. While clinical research has been valuable in finding the best ways to help our clients, I’ve always been drawn to more measurable ways seeing how our music is working.
One approach to this research is with the EEG studies we’ve done. Another testing method is using a Continuous Performance Test (CPT). CPTs are used to diagnose and refine treatment of ADHD and are a great measurement of how someone is able to sustain their attention during a long task.
We first launched a CPT in our previous streaming site, Brain Shift Radio, and collected a ton of great data. Lately I’ve been working on building a version of the CPT for Brain Stim Audio.
I’m pleased to announce that it is live in the form of MusicFocusLab.com

This site is more than the static test format we used on Brain Shift Radio. I built a place where not only can I conduct as many studies and variables as I want, other music researchers can create and manage their own studies.
Whether you’re a listener or a researcher, I hope you check out musicfocuslab.com to see just how powerful music can be as an aid to sustaining focused attention.

Here is What Your Brain Does When You Meditate or Take a Shamanic Journey
This video shows EEG brainwave activity of a mindfulness meditation and a shamanic journey. Activity is tracked in silence and with drumming. The discrepancy is interesting – and expected.

EEG Brainwave Activity While Listening to REI Drumming Compared to Brain Stim Audio’s Ambient Mix
In this video, I show you EEG brainwave activity of an adult male with ADD as he listens to REI drumming rhythms and Brain Stim Audio music (previously Brain Shift Radio). I also describe how Brain Stim Audio’s ambient track influences the effects of the drumming rhythms.

Improve Your Cognition: Drumming to Induce Alpha Entrainment and Gamma Stimulation
In this video, I play my Gonga drum at around 8 beats per second to entrain your brain to low alpha. I use complex, unpredictable rhythms to induce gamma brainwave activity. This combination is great for improved cognition. This track will provide episodic support.
